This jaunt from Sydney to Mudgee and back was spent over 3 days with around 15 hours of riding. Packed with me, I took my trusty Sony A7Cii with a Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 lens in a tank bag and a small duffle for clothing. The weather this particular weekend in Sydney was rather wet, so I was hoping for a good run out west to avoid the rain.
Despite having done these roads a few times over the years, there were some cool things I really wanted to see along the way, including the expansive Capertee valley. I’d also heard there was a motorcycle shop at a neat little place called Rylstone.
Day 1 – My first stop out of Sydney was Wentworth Falls where I stopped for a bit of lunch.

Next stop after some refuelling along the way and realising I’d lost a bar end from my bike (handlebar grip came very loose during the ride) was the Windamere Dam. The dam was a bit underwhelming but was not far from the main road, so not a huge detour.

Finally arrived in Mudgee, where things were starting to get a bit chilly as the sun was coming down. I settled into my digs (The Terraces – really nice central townhouse) and decided to take a wander out to check out the local brewery Mudgee Brewing Co. The beer was pretty good here and the pizza not too bad.

Day 2 – As expected, I woke early in the hours of the morning due to some primal hangover from sleeping in unfamiliar surroundings. Those early hours were spent planning the next 36 hours of my trip. I’d read about a neat motorcycle museum at a local winery which was a short ride from Mudgee.

After packing away my purchase of a nice Riesling, I decided to get back on the road and towards Rylstone. Here there was a cool little motorcycle called Tanks and Tailpipes and also my lunch stop, 29 nine 99 Yum Cha & Tea House. Here you can get a choice of six dumplings, a pot of tea and some dessert for $25.

After lunch, Capertee valley – the widest canyon in the world. The views around this part of the ride were breathtaking and a reminder of just how vast rural New South Wales really is.

I spent around two and a half hours riding through the valley and only saw another 3 vehicles on the roads.
The light changes in an instant around here.

After a long day’s ride, I settled into my accomodation in Blackheath as things had become really cold through the Blue Mountains.
Day 3 – Return to Sydney and the rain via the bike shop to order a new bar end!
